Sugar & Spice
Sugar and Spice are Hereford Hogs. They were found abandoned on the side of road in Runnells, Iowa by a very compassionate woman, who just so happened to be a big supporter of IFS. When a sheriff arrived on the scene, he was fearful that the pigs were wild because of their hair, and got animal control involved quickly. Our team got on the phones as soon as we heard the news and made sure the sheriff knew that the girls were not a threat (all pigs have hair!), and that they would have a place to live if no one claimed them. Animal control worked with the local rescue, the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, who picked up the pigs and brought them quickly to safety. The ARL fostered Sugar and Spice temporarily, and they were given their names by one of the ARL's summer interns. After some frantic fundraising we were able to bring these sweet girls home, and provide the sanctuary they so clearly deserved.
