Devon & Autumn

Devon (right) and Autumn (left) were once kept as backyard chickens. It is a common misconception that backyard chickens are free from suffering or exploitation. But like so many nameless others, they were considered expendable. Devon, Autumn, and Diana Prince (another one of our chicken residents) came to the sanctuary after they were listed for free on craigslist. Farm animals offered for free on craigslist are often treated cruelly or killed to be eaten by those who claim them. We shudder to think about what could have happened if someone else answered their ad. Devon and Autumn were free to express their natural instincts and enjoy the companionship of their flock at IFS. They loved to take dust baths and eat berries frozen in ice on hot days. We will always miss both of these beautiful girls.
