Pop-up Volunteer Work Day

Call for volunteers! We need your help! Attend our volunteer work day and be entered to win two tickets to our third-annual Spring Pig-nic! 🐷

On Saturday, March 2nd, we will be hosting a super important volunteer work day! We need help preparing the grounds for our Spring Pig-nic and the open season. ☀️

For this work day, volunteers will work on building a deck/stage, tables and benches, and a pond-- as well as other beautification tasks like pruning and cleaning. If you love property-makeover shows, this is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you!!! We do not require volunteers to attend an official Volunteer Orientation in order to volunteer on special work days like this one. 👩🏼‍🌾

If you would like to attend our March 2nd work day and be entered to win two tickets to our Spring Pig-nic, please shoot an email to our Volunteer Coordinators at iowafarmsanctuary.volunteer@gmail.com. Thanks, y'all! 💚

Factory Farm Moratorium Lobby Day
Feb

9:30 AM09:30

Factory Farm Moratorium Lobby Day

Your work to build momentum for a factory farm moratorium is paying off. We already have more legislative co-sponsors on our moratorium bill in both the House and the Senate than we did last session!

Factory farms are putting Iowa’s water at risk. At Iowa CCI, Iowa Alliance for Responsible Ag, and Food & Water Watch we’re doing everything we can to keep our water clean – for us, for our kids, for our grandkids.

• Each year, factory farm hogs in Iowa produce as much raw, untreated waste as 45 million people. That’s 15 x the population of Iowa!
• It gets dumped on fields and ends up polluting the water we drink, swim in, fish in and enjoy.
• 60% of Iowa’s tested waterways are polluted.

Attend the Lobby Day and speak to your Senator and Representative about the devastating effects of this extractive industry on Iowa's land, water, air, and communities.

Iowa Humane Lobby Day

From our friends at Iowa Voters for Companion Animals:

IVCA's Ninth Annual Iowa Humane Lobby Day!

If you want to make a positive impact for Iowa's animals in 2019, this is the event for you!

If you want Iowa to better protect our pets with stronger laws, this is the event for you!

Register now: iowavca.org/lobby-day-2019/

IVCA is proud to bring animal welfare advocates and organizations together for one of the most important days of action for Iowa's animals. As Iowa continues to be a leading puppy mill state and is ranked 48th in the nation for animal protection laws, our unified voices are needed now more than ever.

Join us to #BeTheirVoice at the Iowa State Capitol to lobby our legislators for #BetterLawsForThoseWithPaws!

We will all come together to hear from a guest speaker (stay tuned!), review current companion animal welfare bills, learn some tips to effectively lobby legislators, and then all go to the beautiful Iowa State Capitol to speak with our senators and representatives. Great for seasoned advocates, newbies, and everyone in between.

New this year: An option to take an official tour of the Capitol while you are in town! Space is limited, so don't delay! Register today: iowavca.org/lobby-day-2019

Peace Not Pork

From our friends at VegLife Des Moines:

Join VegLife Des Moines as we host the compassionate alternative to BaconFest with a goal of raising funds to benefit Iowa Farm Sanctuary and Des Moines VeganFest 2019. While others in Des Moines will be celebrating the death of thousands of pigs, we'll be honoring their lives at this compassionate alternative, Peace Not Pork.

Tickets will be sold at the door and are on a sliding scale - you choose the price that's right for you!

Some Pig: $5
Proud Piggy: $10
Hoof Hero: $15
Pig Protector: $20

Our friends from Iowa Farm Sanctuary will be on hand to share stories about the pigs at the Sanctuary, but also the realities for the other 20 million + pigs living in Iowa and how we can all get active and change the world for farmed animals.

We are excited to partner with SALT of the Hearth and BeerStyles who will graciously host us. A vegan menu of 5 items for $5 each will be available during the event. In addition, the restaurant will not serve pork that day in honor of our event - what a win for the pigs!

The 5 for $5 menu is as follows:
-Truffle Brussel Sprouts w/ Vegan Parmesan (also Gluten Free)
-Styles Black Bean/Sweet Potato Slider w/ house cut fries
-Red Miso Chili w/ Corn Bread & Maple Vegan Butter
-Slice of Vegan Pizza w/ housemade Mozz & Seitan Italian Sausage
-Blue Velvet Cup Cake (Chocolate cake w/Vegan Butter Cream & Blackberry Compote)

Chef Eli Trapp, our wonderful hostess, will do a cooking demo during the event of a vegan meat alternative!

Children will be tickled to take part in our pig centered crafts and activities.

The event will also feature a silent auction, with great vegan items from the likes of Simple Happy Kitchen, Brightside Kitchen, Envision Positive, Iowa Food Cooperative and more!

And to sweeten the deal, the first 15 VegLife DM newcomers (first time attending our events) will get some Peace Not Pork swag for free!

Come spend the day with other compassionate peeps in Des Moines!

Carl's 2nd Birthday!

Carl's 2nd Birthday!

What: Carl’s Second Birthday! 🐮❤️🎂

When: October 7th from 1-4pm

Where: IFS, of course!

Why: Help us celebrate the triumph of one tiny calf and the compassion that saved his life! Carl the cow was rescued from a veal auction (and certain death) just a few days before our very first fall fundraiser. His fate was uncertain, he was so tiny and his health was so poor-- we did not know if we would ever celebrate his first birthday. Carl defied all odds and has grown to be an incredibly healthy and loving cow— and now we get to celebrate his 2nd birthday!!!

Waukee Arts Festival

The Waukee Area Arts Council and Stivers Ford Lincoln are pleased to present the Waukee Arts Festival on Friday, July 13th and Saturday, July 14th in Centennial Park.

- Free Friday night concert by The Nadas
- Live music all day Saturday
- 90+ regional artists and exhibitors
- Student Artist exhibit, sponsored by Waukee Rotary Club
- Craft beer from Barn Town Brewing
- Unique beer garden by Rolling Taps Beer Coe
- Food truck vendors Friday and Saturday
- Kids entertainment and activities Saturday

Admission is free to the public.

The festival will open with a free Friday night concert featuring The Nadas, from 7pm to 9pm.

"The Nadas are a band from Iowa. Yes, they have been around long enough that if they were a car you would keep them covered in your garage except for sunny weekend cruising. But that isn't what is important about their story. What is important is that they make music that makes you feel things. Happy, sad, nostalgic, optimistic, energized, curious, inspired, and confused. The important part is that it makes you want to listen, and sometimes dance. 2018 will mark the 25th year of The Nadas. In January, they will be releasing their 11th studio record entitled "One Louder". At a stage where most bands would be resting on their laurels and letting others do the heavy lifting, The Nadas are out there swinging for the fences, driving the van and carrying their own instruments."

Saturday artist exhibitions will be open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
