Auggie is a ray of sunshine. Auggie was born with a rare genetic condition called hypotrichosis. Hypotrichosis, simply put, is a condition characterized by a lack of hair and teeth. Because of his unique features, Auggie will need special care and accommodations throughout his life, such as moistened food, shelter from the sun, and protection from the cold. Thankfully, his previous guardians surrendered him to the sanctuary, knowing that they could not provide for his unique needs. Auggie came to us at just two weeks old and immediately melted the hearts of everyone who met him. As with all calves, Auggie is wobbly on his feet, inquisitive, and playful. He knows nothing of his differences or the challenges he may face in his life due to his genetic condition. Auggie has quickly become very stylish, wearing hats and sweaters when he goes outside for fresh air. Auggie loves to snuggle with everybody – dogs, cats, cows, and humans. While Auggie doesn’t have hair like other cows, he does have a thin layer of peach fuzz on most of his body, which truly leaves him feeling like a peach! We are so excited to watch Auggie grow and thrive at the sanctuary. No matter what challenges come his way, we will always rise up to meet them.
