FAQ

  • What kind of clothing and shoes should I wear?
Comfortable clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Prepare for anything.

  • Can I bring snacks for the animals? Please do not bring treats from home for the animals. We’ll have approved snacks for you to buy, if you choose.

  • Can I bring snacks for myself/my family? Guests are welcome to bring a vegan lunch or snacks. Out of respect for our rescued animal residents, we do not allow animal products (meat, dairy, eggs, etc.) on the premises. And, please do not litter, both for the safety of the residents and the environment.

  • Where can I park? Parking is available near the Sanctuary Store/Visitor Center.

  • Are there drinks available for purchase? Not at this time. Please remember to bring a water bottle with you to the sanctuary.

  • Are there restrooms on site? Currently we have a port-o-potty available for guest use. In the future we hope to have a more permanent facility for visitors.

  • Is Iowa Farm Sanctuary a petting zoo? No. Petting zoos exist for the sole purpose of entertaining humans for profit; animals used in petting zoos are not given the freedom to decide whether they would like to be touched or handled. Iowa Farm Sanctuary is a nonprofit refuge for rescued farm animals who have been saved from situations of abuse, from becoming someone’s dinner, or who have been surrendered into our care by a loving guardian. By coming to live at Iowa Farm Sanctuary, they are assured a lifetime of happiness and safety in their forever home with us. The residents are free to decide whether or not they would like to interact with visitors, and admission donations are used for rescue missions, care for rescued animals, and humane education.
