George was rescued after he and two other pigs fell from a transport truck on I-35 outside of Des Moines. Luckily a friend of ours happened to be passing by immediately after the pigs fell from the truck. She contacted us and we were able to arrive on scene immediately.

Sadly, the other two pigs had to be euthanized, but George was safe and was taken to Iowa State Large Animal Hospital for a full work-up. Since his rescue, George has recovered well and has even lost a few pounds. Shortly after his rescue, he became an uncle to a piglet named Guy. The two have a bond unlike anything we have witnessed at the sanctuary before.
